Concordia is a city of the fourth class located in the southeast corner of Lafayette county with a population of 2,360. The city is subdivided into two wards, with two aldermen serving a two year term for each ward. In order to run for alderman a candidate must be 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant and resident of the city for one year. The board of alderman is overseen by a mayor. Candidates for mayor must be 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city at the time of and for at least one year preceding the election. Mayor and city collector also serve a two year term. Elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April of each year.

Board of Alderman meetings are held every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm in room 203 of the Concordia Community Center, 802 S Gordon St. The Board consists of 4 aldermen, two from ward I and two from ward II, and elected to serve two year terms. The Board consisting of the 4 aldermen and the mayor is charged with a variety of legislative duties such as approving the city budget, passing city ordinances, supervising the city administrator, and overseeing city functions.

City tax statements are mailed around the first of November and are due by December 31 at which time a penalty will be applied. Tax payments can be brought in during regular hours, mailed or placed in the night drop throughout the year. The city collector is available in her office at Concordia City Hall from November 1st to mid January.
